This past week, school officials met with representatives of the Cherry Tree Elementary community. It has become clear that the school corporation is determined to locate the softball complex at Cherry Tree, despite the opposition of the surrounding community.
The adjustments will be made public on Monday, April 28 at the monthly school board meeting. Elements of the plan include:
1. Fence only three of the four fields, leaving the southeast field open for elementary school and public use.
2. Brick the press box/changing room building to match the facade of the school.
3. Reinstall the sidewalk north of the field for a direct walkway to the school from the west.
4. Sign a loosely worded use agreement between the Avian Glen HOA and the school board that will bind the school and Carmel Dad's Club to when they can use the complex.
5. Schedule annual meetings between the Avian Glen HOA, school board, and CDC to address concerns and issues.
These adjustments are in addition to the previously proposed relocation of the green space to the northwest field (with water drainage tanks installed), expansion of north parking lot, preservation of the south playground and expansion of north playground to include new equipment, and landscaping around perimeter of complex.
